Tesla is Looking to Call Markham Home
Tesla plans to construct a facility in Markham, Ontario, to produce battery manufacturing equipment as the electric carmaker ramps up production of affordable, longer-range 4680 battery cells, according to the mayor. Tesla Canada has announced that it will locate a production facility in Markham, adding to the city’s already thriving automotive and technological sector. The plant will be the first branded Tesla Canada manufacturing facility in Canada, producing cutting-edge manufacturing equipment that will be used throughout the world’s Gigafactories to create batteries.
Richmond Hill has been chosen as the location for Amazon Canada’s newest delivery station. The 20,800-square-metre complex is being built at the Headford Business Park, just north of 16th Avenue, on 10.85 hectares of land near to Highway 404. It will provide service to customers throughout the central York Region as the “last mile” of Amazon’s order fulfilment process. The new facility, which is anticipated to open in early 2023, is estimated to bring 400 new jobs to the city, including over 200 full-time employees with comprehensive benefits from day one.
Amazon Looks to Expand to Richmond Hill
Amazon has also pledged to entirely switching its fleet at its Richmond Hill location to electric vehicles by 2030, in keeping with the Richmond Hill council’s strategic aim of balancing growth and environmental concerns. Amazon Canada and Tesla Canada are joining a growing list of major corporations that have invested in York Region, including BMW, Staples, Olympus, Compugen, and several others.
